The Hadzabe are one of Tanzania’s last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes, living near Lake Eyasi in the central Rift Valley. With a population of around 1,200 to 1,300, they continue to follow a traditional lifestyle passed down through generations.
Using handmade bows, natural poisons, and skilled camouflage, the Hadzabe hunt and forage in the wild as their ancestors did.

Detailed Hadzabe Tribe at Lake Eyasi Itinerary
You will depart early from Arusha and head toward Lake Eyasi, home of the Hadzabe tribe. The journey covers approximately 148 km and takes about 4 hours by road. From Karatu, the drive is shorter—around 1 hour.
Upon arrival, you’ll engage with the Hadzabe people and learn about their traditional hunter-gatherer lifestyle. A highlight of the experience is the early morning hunting demonstration, offering an authentic look into how the Hadzabe have thrived for generations.
You’ll also visit a local blacksmith to observe how tools and ornaments are crafted from start to finish.
After the visit, you’ll head to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
