Lake Manyara National Park Day Trip
Lake Manyara National Park Day Trip
Overview
Lake Manyara National Park is an unspoilt paradise, renowned for its incredible birdlife and the rare sight of tree-climbing lions. The park’s western edge is framed by the dramatic Rift Valley escarpment, while to the east lies the shallow, alkaline Lake Manyara, which expands and shrinks with the seasons. During the rains, the lake becomes a sanctuary for thousands of flamingos, painting the horizon in soft pink hues. The name Manyara comes from the Maasai word emanyara—a plant used to build the protective enclosures, or bomas, around family homesteads.
The park’s vegetation is strikingly diverse, ranging from open savannah to lush evergreen forest. On your exploration, you may encounter giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, and elephant, and if luck is on your side, the legendary lions resting high in the trees.
