Best Time to Visit

Zanzibar suits this itinerary year-round, though sea conditions do vary by season.

The dry seasons of June–October and December–February bring calm waters, ideal for the Safari Blue boat excursion and snorkeling. The green season (March–May, November) offers lower rates and quieter beaches, though occasional showers can affect visibility on the water. We recommend avoiding the heaviest rains in April if the marine excursion is a priority.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrival & Spice Farm Tour

Zanzibar spice farm

Arrive in Zanzibar and meet your guide for a fragrant tour of a working spice plantation just outside Stone Town. Walk through groves of clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, and cardamom, learning how these prized spices are grown, harvested, and used, with plenty of hands-on tasting and smelling along the way. Enjoy a traditional Zanzibari lunch featuring dishes flavored with the very spices you've just seen. In the afternoon, transfer to your beach resort on the east coast, arriving in time to settle in and watch the sunset over the ocean.

Today is dedicated to the legendary Safari Blue, a full-day excursion by traditional wooden dhow through the waters of Menai Bay. Sail past the mangrove channels of Kwale Island, spotting dolphins if you're lucky, before dropping anchor to snorkel over vibrant coral reefs teeming with tropical fish. Around midday, gather on a sandbank in the middle of the ocean for a spectacular seafood buffet, grilled fresh and served with tropical fruits. Spend the afternoon swimming in the warm, shallow waters before sailing back to shore as the sun begins to dip toward the horizon. Return to your resort for a relaxed evening.

Safari Blue was the highlight of our whole trip. Snorkeling over the reef and then eating fresh crab on a sandbank in the middle of the ocean felt surreal. The spice tour was a great intro to the island too.

Perfectly paced four days. Enough activity to feel like an adventure, enough beach time to actually relax. Our guide on the spice farm was fantastic and full of stories.
